KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) - What started as an argument over the outcome of the Honduras-Mexico soccer game turned into a shooting and a stabbing, according to Knoxville Police.

Not long after Honduras had defeated Mexico 1-0, an argument ensued at the Briarcliff Apartments off Gleason Drive in West Knoxville early Thursday morning.

When Knoxville Police officers arrived at 307 Buckeye Drive in the complex at 3:07 a.m., they found Daniel Aguilar, 23, on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, and a knife wound to the leg.

Aguilar, who just moved to Knoxville from Indianapolis on Monday, was transported to UT Medical Center with what KPD spokesperson Darrell DeBusk calls "very serious injuries."

Investigators say once they got the witnesses to the police station and began to question them, they learned the victim was arguing with a man. During the argument, the man's brother shot the victim. The man who was arguing with the victim then stabbed him in the leg.

Both men fled. Police believe the two are Hispanic, but are still gathering a better description of them.

By the way, with Honduras' win, they advanced to the qualifying rounds for the 2010 South Africa World Cup.
