NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessean newspaper has made some format changes to combine editions and eliminate daily television listings.
Editor Mark Silverman attributed the changes, which took effect Monday, to the recession.
The weekday local and business news sections have been combined into one section. The paper is also combining its Friday features and weekend sections and turning two Sunday features sections into one.
Although the daily television listings have ended, the newspaper is continuing weekly TV listings on Sundays.
The paper also reorganized its newsroom staff for its print and Web operations and named an editor to oversee efforts to involve readers in coverage.
Silverman said the paper had received responses from nearly 4,000 readers while it considered how to reformat the newspaper.
The Tennessean is owned by the Gannett Co., and other Gannett papers have made similar changes recently.
