Knoxville, Tenn. (AP) -- The University of Tennessee Press has halted sales of book by an adjunct history professor at UT Chattanooga after he was accused of plagiarism.

The book in question is titled "Captain Henry Wirz and Andersonville Prison: A Reappraisal."

Doctor R. Fred Ruhlman wrote about the Confederate prisoner of war stockade at Andersonville, Georgia, where many Union soldiers died during the Civil War.

It's Ruhlman's first book and UT Press published it on August 31st.

But well-regarded writer William Marvel complained to the publisher after he was asked to review the book for the Georgia Historical Quarterly, saying he found what he describes as 'pages and pages' of his work. Marvel says the text had been what he termed "lightly rearranged" to make it appear original. Marvel says Ruhlman's book repeated the only bibliographic error in Marvel's work, "Andersonville: The Last Depot," which was published by university of North Carolina Press in 1994.

In a news release through UT Press, Ruhlman said he greatly admired Marvel's work and had read it "perhaps too much," but said he never intended to copy anyone else's material.

Ruhlman says he will hire a professional editor when he writes his next book.
