KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knoxville police spent part of Saturday afternoon chasing down a man who caused a wreck and then took off.
Investigators say Matthew Benintende hit a car at the intersection of Magnolia and Mary.
The people in that car had to go to the hospital. They have non-life-threatening injuries.
Benintende fled.
He abandoned his car on I-640 when officers spotted him.
They chased him on foot for a while.
They even called in a county helicopter to keep an eye on him during the chase.
In the end, Benintende called police from his cell phone and surrendered.
He's going to jail on hit and run charges and driving on a suspended license.
