KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – FBI agents working with the Knoxville Police Department and Knox County Sheriff’s Office have caught the man they suspect of robbing two Knox County banks and a bread store over the previous four days.
FBI Supervisory Special Agent Mike McLean confirms Larry Murray, 32 of Halls was caught Tuesday evening in North Knoxville during a traffic stop. Reports from the scene indicate it happened just after 6:30 PM when Murray’s car ran out of gas near the intersection of Emory Road and Thompson School Road. McLean said it happened while agents were following a tip about the getaway vehicle used in an earlier bank robbery.
Murray’s accused of robbing the Fifth Third Bank on N. Broadway in North Knoxville around 4:15 PM on Tuesday. He’s later accused of robbing the Merita Bread Outlet Store on Maynardville Highway.
McLean says he believes Murray also robbed the BB&T Bank at 7108 Maynardville Highway last Friday and was seen casing the UT Federal Credit Union on Emory Road earlier that day, but did not rob it.
Robbery charges against Murray were still pending late Tuesday night. Stay with Volunteer TV News and VolunteerTV.com for the latest on this developing story.
