There are dozens of police out the 4th of July holiday weekend.
They're looking for drivers violating the law.
We rode along with a Tennessee State Trooper to see what they're looking for on the roadways this holiday weekend.Trooper Richard Conatser pulls over a black hummer for speeding.
He writes up a ticket. One of many this holiday weekend.
Richard Conatser says, "You may be a good driver, but it's the other person who causes the wreck."
Officers will also be looking for drunk drivers.
Conatser says, "We want people to understand they can have fun just designate a driver."
And they're going to be looking for people who are texting.
Since the law took affect Wednesday, they still see a lot of texting while driving.
Conatser says, "You see somebody weaving all over the road you get behind them. You think they're drunk and pull them over. They were just texting."
So if you're going across town or across country, there are some things to remember.
Wear your seat belt, obey the speed limit, don't follow too closely and don't drink and drive.
Conatser says, "It's all about thinking one step ahead."
