MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- State Sen. Jim Kyle says he will make a formal announcement soon on whether he will run for governor.
The Memphis Democrat filed with the Registry of Election Finance on Wednesday for the 2010 campaign, allowing him to begin fundraising.
Kyle told the Commercial Appeal that he will announce his decision later in July or early in August.
Meanwhile, he tapped former state senator Andy Womack of Murfreesboro to be his campaign treasurer.
Other Democrats seeking the nomination include Nashville businessman Ward Cammack, state Sen. Roy Herron of Dresden, former state House Majority Leader Kim McMillan of Clarksville and Jackson businessman Mike McWherter.
