ROCKWOOD, Tenn. (WVLT) -- She lived during the sinking of the Titanic and through both world wars.
When she was born, Theodore Roosevelt was the President of the United States. Now 19 administrations later, she is celebrating her 107th birthday in Roane County.
Helen Muccio has always loved attention and on this day she is being celebrated at "The Bridge in Rockwood" for her 107 years of life.
Muccio said, "At first, it is shocking that all that would be directed to me. But, then you get used to good things."
She even received greetings from her great grandson and his family from across the miles. The family singing the happy birthday song in unison over the phone.
Born in 1902 in Hungary, Mrs. Muccio immigrated to the United States with her family when she was 6-years old. Those memories are still very clear.
"I was brought here. I remember coming by boat.
They were very kind. I was afraid I was doing the wrong thing," said Muccio.
Ms. Muccio lived in New York until 1985, when she relocated to Tennessee. Her daughter lives in Kingston and her son lives in Maine. They say their mom has always been independent.
"She was living in a house until she was 95," said son Ted Baker.
Even into her 80's and 90's, Mrs. Muccio kept active, volunteering at a rehab center and with "Friends of the Libraries.
So what does it take to live this long?
Muccio said, "I don't think I did anything special."
But the many people she touched throughout her life sure think 107 year old Helen Muccio is one special lady.
Ms. Muccio's family is rounded out with 6 grand children and 7 great grand children.
