KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Knoxville Chamber of Commerce held its “Frightful Sight Men’s High Heels Race” on Friday afternoon.
The race was held on Market Square and involved five men from the chamber running through a short obstacle course. The kicker was that they had to wear high heels, wigs and costumes.
Chamber officials said they organize five or six similar events each October to raise money for the United Way. The high heels race is in its first year.
"One of the runners came up with this idea,” said Ashleigh Adkins from the chamber. “We try to come up with new and creative things ever year that people will be interested in donating money to. This year, people are actually doing an ‘exacta’ where they can bet on the first and second place runners in the race."
The chamber has already risen $8,000 this month for the United Way.
Former WVLT Volunteer TV Sports Overtime anchor Justin Kropff took part in the race. He wore number three and was dressed in high heels, knee high stockings, a skirt and wore a pink beehive wig. He took last place in the race. His wife, East Tennessee This Morning anchor Allison Kropff, wasn’t immediately available for comment.
