HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Rescue crews in Hamblen County have recovered a body near where a boater went missing early Wednesday afternoon.

The body was identified as Richard T. Derry, 50, of Talbott, Tenn.

Jackie K. Rutherford, 35 and Derry were fishing on Cherokee Lake at point four near the Hamblen-Jefferson County line when a wave caused their boat to capsize.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said conditions on the lake were windy and wavy when both men were thrown from the 1976, 14-foot tri-hull boat. Rutherford was able to swim 50 yards to the shore.

Hamblen Co. rescue, EMS workers and members of the Hamblen County Sheriff's Office spent the afternoon searching for Derry.

Dispatchers with the Hamblen County 911 confirmed Derry's body was recovered early Wednesday evening near where the boat capsized. An autopsy will be performed.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
