HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – The City of Morristown is desperately looking for ways to save money from its budget. To do so, they are going to have to make cuts that could affect some city provided services.

A member of the fire department told Volunteer TV News on Tuesday that the city is near bankruptcy and cutes have already been made to both the fire and police departments. On Tuesday night, the city council voted to make operational budget cuts and reduce some employees work weeks by an hour and a half.

According to Morristown’s mayor, her office and city employees worked together to come up with the cuts.

“While this was not easy to do, it certainly is better than sending a number of employees back home without any pay,” said Mayor Barbara Barile. “All of our department heads enlisted the help of their staff members in order to make those cuts."

Here's just one example of the budgetary crisis: Morristown paid to send recently sent two firefighters off for training. When they returned home fully trained, there were no available jobs for them..

Illegals is just one of the problems that Morristown employees are fighting. No one will address that situation. They wont make a decision on anything that makes sense for fear that it will affect them getting re-elected. The town is disgustinly filthy but instead of cleaning up Downtown they would rather have car shows there. Instead of fixing our roads that are in dire need of repair they overspend by millions on a road that goes no where that no one uses. They spent money on wants and not needs and appear to be participating in unethical activities that violate the city's code of ethics policy. We need four more city councilmen that will stand up for the people like the two did this last Tueday that got outvoted by those who have never had to worry where there next meal will come from and arent one bit concerned about the well being of those they represent and are supposed to be sworn and dedicated to serve!
