KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed they’ve located one of the men wanted in connection with Wednesday afternoon’s officer involved shooting in Farragut.

Around 4:00 p.m., a KCSO deputy tried to stop two men who had allegedly shoplifted groceries from the Kroger near Farragut High School. Witnesses said both suspects jumped in a faded blue Nissan Maxima and tried to hit the deputy before fleeing east on Kingston Pike. During the getaway, the deputy fired multiple shots at the car.

KCSO officials said the driver of the car was located about two hours later. They said a friend had dropped him off at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson County. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to his neck and upper shoulder. He was due to be flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center around 7:00 p.m.

Deputies also confirmed they found the getaway car hidden behind a home in Jefferson County.

They were still looking for the second suspect, who was described as a heavy set white man wearing khaki pants and a red and blue “cowboy/western” style long-sleeved shirt.

PREVIOUS STORY:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Knox County Sheriff's Deputy shot at two shoplifting suspects who tried to run him over with their car Wednesday afternoon, deputies say.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. at the Kroger Marketplace in Farragut, across from Farragut High School.

Knox County Sheriff's spokesperson Martha Dooley says K9 deputy Grayson Fritz approached two shoplifting suspects who were trying to load a cart-load of pilfered groceries into a faded blue, early 90s model Nissan Maxima. Dooley says the suspects jumped into the car and tried to hit Fritz with the car. Fritz opened fire on the suspects, shooting out a driver side window.

The Maxima hit another parked car, causing that car to hit another vehicle.

It's not clear whether either of the suspects were hit by the round fired by Fritz.

The driver is described as a white man with long hair and a goatee. The passenger is described as a heavyset white man. He was wearing khaki pants and a read and blue, western-style, long sleeve shirt, Dooley says.

Officers are on the lookout for Maxima, which has a license tag number of either 729VJN or 776VJN.

Anyone with information should call the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
