KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- If you could quit smoking cold turkey for a cold turkey, would you?
Robin Davis: "I can't cook, I'm going to give it to my family to cook but I obviously did it because i want to quit smoking."
Davis is starting off the holiday season on a healthier side...
It's all part of the University of Tennessee Medical Center's way to honor the 'Great American Smoke-Out.' You say goodbye to a pack and take a free gobble of turkey.

Davis says, "That's the first step when I did turn them in, I knew that's the first step."

So you turn in your pack for a cold turkey, but what do you do if you want to go back to the pack?
Davis says,"I'm starting on the prescription Chantax and that's supposed to help as well."
And if prescriptions or a turkey aren't enough for you, how about some health benefits?
Dr. Otis Brawley says,"Within 20 minutes of one's stopping smoking one's heart rate and blood pressure actually go down. 12 hours after one stops smoking the carbon monoxide levels in one's blood decrease. About 2 weeks after one stops smoking one's lung function actually improves so one is going to be less short of breath and has more exercise tolerance."
UT Medical Center says they plan on giving out over 70 turkeys today for the Great American Smoke-Out- that means over 70 smokers are hoping to quit just before Thanksgiving.
Health officials say if you are looking to quit and you are unable to trade in a pack for a turkey, you should contact your medical provider for even more ways to quit cold turkey.

I quit cold turkey about a year ago, it wasn't as bad as I expected. Mind over matter, I chewed sunflower seeds for about a month or two to help with the need to do something.

Cold turkey for a cold turkey? I think it would be more of an incentive to push off the Great American Smoke-out for a week and serve ready made hot turkey on Thanksgiving.
