KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The University of Tennessee Philosophy Department hosted the first annual East Tennessee High School Ethics Bowl on Thursday evening.

The inaugural event pitted Knoxville Catholic High School against the Tennessee School for the Deaf.

Several ethical case studies were up for debate ranging from drug use to abortion, pollution and end of life issues. Students from both schools formed teams and were presented with three ethical case studies. They were then questioned on each study and had to supply answers using the four dominant ethical theories of Kantianism, Utilitarianism/Consequentialism, Virtue Ethics and Feminist Care Ethics.

Members of philosophy department faculty served as judges.

The team from Catholic ended up winning the competition.
