NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Middle Tennessee State University professor is hoping to catch the attention of state leaders with his technology to convert any car into a plug-in hybrid.

Professor Charles Perry says his plug-in hybrid retrofit kit, for which he has a patent pending, will cost about $3,000. The prototype was built by Professor Chong Chen and MTSU students.

Perry told WSMV-TV in Nashville that most state vehicles could easily be converted to hybrid, saving money and creating jobs at the same time.

The professors took part Tuesday in the Tennessee Technology Development Corp.'s Innovation Day on Capitol Hill.
