8 ways to save money with your smartphone

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)--We're all always looking for ways to save a few bucks.
Did you know it's as close as the palm of your hand.
We found ways we can keep thousands in our pockets.

Are you a little cash strAPPed?
Instead of writing a big check, check your phone for cost saving apps.
We're about to take you on a shopping trip.
Get ready to hit the app store.
Here are 8 ways to save with a swipe.

To save all the money you can the first place is at the gas station.
On your way to shop, find the cheapest gas pump to fill up.
Use GasBuddy app.

Before you go shopping, you'll need to withdraw money out of your account.
Instead of paying the ATM fees sometimes up to $3, you're going to want to find a fee free ATM.
Download your bank's smartphone app.
They're free and using your GPS location, tell your bank's nearest ATM is located.

As you head to the grocery store, make sure you have a list.
GroceryIQ is a great app for that.
You can scan the item at home and it goes directly on your list.
That way you don't buy anything extra and you stay away from impulse buying.
It's really handy and a free download for iPhone and Android phones.

Coupon apps are great because they offer coupons for different stores and you always have them when you need them.
Coupon Sherpa is good for iPhone and The Coupons for Android will get the job done.
Also download store-specific apps for access to exclusive deals.

If you've got a smartphone you can quickly check to see if any online prices are better than what you're seeing locally.
You do this by scanning the barcode on the back of a product with your smartphone's camera and a price comparison app.
For iPhone, we like Google Shopper.

We all get gift cards, but a balance often sits in a drawer.
Instead of wasting that money, you can list your cards on this site for free and get a check or Amazon.com credit for them.
Go to www.plasticjungle.com and let them turn your balance into a check for a small fee.
But remember they must be over $25.

You can start making VOIP calls to save your cell phone minutes.
The simplest way to go about this is to just use Skype for iPhone, Android and Blackberry.
Also, Talkatone works for iPhone and GrooVe IP does the same for Android.

Or instead of the pricey texting, there are tons of apps that let you do them for free.
Google Voice is the most popular, but TextFree for iPhone and Android also gets the job done.

So go to your App Store or the Android Market and start downloading.
It could save you some money if you're cashstrAPPed.
