KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Scott County deputies are busy after finding a new synthetic drug in their county.

Authorities there discovered a fake drug called mojo weed, also known as K-2 or Spice, in a Winnebago camper that was leaving the Bonaroo music festival.

Now state legislators have outlawed it. The amendment goes into effect on July 1st. Legislators approved the ban on May 26th. And for many anti-drug advocates it won't be a moment too soon.

"Basically what K2 is is an herb sprayed with THC, which is a main ingredient in marijuana," according to Heather Sutton at the Metropolitan Drug Commission.

It's fake pot but the high is real.

"We think that's a wonderful thing (to outlaw it). We don't want not just teens but adults to get their hands on any substance that can alter their senses," Sutton said.

Drug counselors say teens using K2 have less motivation, tend to sleep more, have bloodshot eyes and ask to borrow money in large amounts.

Parents like Amanda Rowcliffe may have never heard of K2, but she is aware teens experiment with new ways to get high.

"There are too many kids today doing too many things," said Rowcliffe. "Really dangerous. It's heartbreaking."

She says she talks constantly with her daughter Emily about drug use and is glad to see lawmakers make K2 illegal. But some parents wonder if the new law won't make K2 more enticing.

Said Sibby Flowers: "I really don't think it's gonna stop anything. I remember being a kid and you're gonna do it if you wanna do it."

K2 is an expensive substance. Three grams can range from $25 to $75.

I can't believe this the government will ban a natural substance(pot or fake pot) that helps cancer and countless other illnesses but yet the fda can pass drugs that cuase suicidal and homicidal tendencies. Not to mention countless other drugs that have been recalled due to death in some consumers. I have never seen pot kill someone or someone even become physically addicted to it. This law is ridiculous.

This is quite funny...Never tried such a thing however, I do personally think that the economy would actually improve if people could buy smoke legally. lol Not only due to the money spent but also the fact that people would be in a much better mood.
