MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (WVLT) -- One person is in the hospital following an explosion at a plant in Morristown Monday night.
According to the Citizen Tribune, toluene liquid, often used as a solvent, boiled into a vapor and sparked an explosion in an exhaust system at Trelleborg Coated Systems off Commerce Boulevard.
The paper reports that everyone had been evacuated when firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke wafting out a back bay door as an alarm sounded.
Clark Taylor, chief deputy of the Morristown Fire Department, tells the Citizen Tribune that the combustible liquid could not be processed out of the plant, and says that crews are working to get it vented out safely.
One person was taken to Jefferson Memorial hospital by ambulance, and traffic was blocked in front of the plant while crews worked to clear the building.
Taylor tells the paper the power was shut off and gas detectors will be used to make sure all of the toluene is gone before firefighters clear the scene.
