Can someone get your prescriptions without your approval?
What would you do if you went to pick up your prescription, but someone you didn’t know had already picked them up in your name?

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- What would you do if you went to pick up your prescription, but someone you didn’t know had already picked them up in your name?
It happened to one Knoxville man who's in pain because he says someone illegally took his pain medication.
Danny Benton's leg was amputated due to his diabetes. The disease also causes painful neuropathy, or nerve damage.
"Every nerve ending on my body is firing,” he told WVLT Volunteer TV News. “It's like pins being stuck in my body."
He says he dropped off a prescription for Roxicodone off at the Walgreen’s drive-through pharmacy on Broadway. Roxicodone is a generic medication that contains a fast acting opiate-based pain medication oxycodone. He ran into problems when he returned to pick it up.
"I got there and they told me I had already picked my prescription up at 7:45,” he said, “I told them, ‘no I have not.’"
The powerful medication is a Schedule II narcotic in the United States, meaning it has a high potential for abuse. It is also considered to be very good for managing chronic pain.
Because the medication has a high potential for abuse, pharmacies typically take extra precautions when distributing it.
Benton says he authorized no one to pick up the drugs we talked to the pharmacy who says they are not to blame because they're following the state's policy.
Under Walgreens policy, others can still get their hands on your medication.
"In accordance with state regulations, to pick up a prescription the person will give us a name and we would ask them to provide their address as well," said Jim Cohn, a Walgreens spokesman.
He added that Walgreens never asks to see personal identification.
“Because often times, patients aren't the one picking them up,” Cohn said. “It may be a caregiver or other person picking up the prescription for a patient."
Because Danny gets his prescriptions from the pain clinic, he has no medicine for a month until his next doctor's visit.
"I'm staying in pain,” he said. “I've gone to Kroger's and got Tylenol, Ibuprofen and Aleve and I'm taking that."

This isn't the fault of Walgreens or CVS. What Bob says is 100% correct. You should never let anyone know, except your spouse/partner or caretaker, what kind of medications you take. Especially narcotic pain medications. My guess is someone in his family is the pill thief. Don't blame the pharmacy. I use Walgreens and you can add a password to your prescriptions for an extra level of security. I am sure the guy can file a police report in regards to the stolen medication and the PM clinic would write a new script.
This happened to a friend at the Walmart in East Knox. A so called friend took him to Walmart to drop off the script. After dropping my injured friend off at home he went right back to wally world and got his pain pills. When my friend returned he was told the pills were already picked up and there wasnt anything thay could do. They really need to start asking for identifiction with all the crimes involving high powered pain meds!!!!
I hope he sues the hell out of them. Walgreens and CVS could care less about your health. They just want the money.
