MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – State and Monroe County authorities are investigating a deadly mobile home explosion in Sweetwater.

Officials with the Sweetwater Police Department said it happened just after 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday inside a trailer at Valley Mobile Home Park on South Main Street.

When officers arrived on the scene minutes later, the trailer was already fully engulfed by flames. The victim had made it outside the trailer, but passed away after being transported to Sweetwater Hospital.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation by the Sweetwater Police and Tennessee Bomb and Arson Division. It is believed the victim may have been smoking while using a portable oxygen tank.

The victim’s name has not been released.
