Blount County Tennessee Resident Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Mark Peter Sawyer pleaded guilty of tax evasion, according to the Dept. of Revenue. The Louisville man was accused of purchasing a 35' Sea Ray Cabin boat for $67,500 without paying $4,805 in taxes.

The fifty-six-year old was granted judicial diversion by Judge Steve Dozier which placed him on supervised probation until 2014. He was also ordered to pay Tennessee Department Revenue $4,805.

"The Department of Revenue promotes voluntary taxpayer compliance by educating taxpayers, aggressively pursuing criminal sanctions and demanding accountability when taxpayers engage in fraudulent activity," said Revenue Commissioner Riichard H. Roberts.
