KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- Knoxville fire fighters were busy fighting a pair of overnight blazes.
According to officials with KFD, the first fire was at the Wear Else consignment store at 7509 south Northshore Drive. It was called in by a passing by KPD officer. The store, which is in a shopping center, was the only business damaged by the flames. It is unclear how much damage was done.
Just a few minutes later, another fire was dispatched out- this time at 1816 Fraternity Park Drive at the Sigma Chi fraternity house on UT's campus.
When crews arrived they saw heavy smoke coming from the structure.
Fire investigators say it was contained to to one bedroom of the two story structure, but at least 35 residents of the house evacuated.
However, KFD says several of the residents did leave even as the fire alarms were going off. Firefighters were able to safely get those students out.
The cause of both fires is under investigation.
