Prosecutors try to prove man intentionally dragged dog behind truck
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A jury says it cannot reach a decision in the case of a man accused of dragging a dog behind his truck.
A hung jury returned Wednesday afternoon in Jimmy Lovell's trial. It will now be up to the judge whether to declare a mistrial.
Prosecutors hoped to prove Lovell intentionally tied the dog to the back of his truck and drove down the road. Witnesses testified they frantically screamed at Lovell as he was dragging the dog and tried to get him to stop, but he didn't.
Animal Control officers testified to the extensive injuries "Little Brown Dog," who now goes by "Sasha" suffered, as a result of the dragging. The skin on her chest was worn through, exposing muscle and bone, all of her paws were missing nails, and were covered in road burns and she was going into shock when vets at University of Tennessee got her.
Lovell took the stand in his own defense Wednesday morning.
