Restrooms vandalized at Big South Fork picnic area

ONEIDA, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The National Park Service says staff members have discovered vandalism at the Yahoo Falls Picnic Area at Big South Fork park.

The vandalism was contained to the restroom facilities at the picnic area, but included extensive damage and will require costly repairs.

Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area Superintendent Niki Stephanie Nicholas said it is unfortunate that money from other projects will now have to be used to repair the "senseless destruction". Nicholas added that if the vandalism continues, a gate will be built on the access road to the Yahoo Falls area and will be closed at night, during the winter and at other times of low use.

Anyone with information on this vandalism or any other incidents should call Big South Fork Acting Chief Ranger Matt Hudson at (423) 569-9778.
