KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Thompson-Boling Arena was just one of the many buildings left in the dark after a major power line was cut while crews worked on a streetscape project along Lake Loudoun Blvd., according to University officials.
All of the buildings affected by the outage were in the southeast corner of campus, and included: Neyland Stadium, Pasqua Engineering Building, Claxton Educational Complex, the College of Nursing, the Communications/Student Services Building, the Solar Houses, the Goodfriend Tennis Complex, Andy Holt Tower and the P1, P2 and G10 parking garages. Power is also off at five fraternity houses: Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu, Pi Kappa Phi, and Phi Gamma Delta.
A spokesperson for the university said power was restored at all of the buildings, including the arena, shortly after the P1 and P2 parking garages shortly after 4:00 p.m.
University officials warned the parking garages may even take longer to get their power back. Facilities Services is working to install temporary lighting in those area and plan to offer extra security.
