Stove left on during power failure may have sparked Knoxville fire

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A fire Wednesday evening may have been caused by a stove that the owner said she might have left on when storms knocked out power the night before.

No one was home when neighbors called 911 to report smoke coming from the home, 1701 White Pine, shortly before 5:00 p.m. Finding the doors locked, firefighters forced their way inside and traced the origin of the fire to the kitchen.

They put out the fire and cut a vertical hole into the roof to allow the smoke to escape.

When the owner returned home, she told investigators she had been cooking the night before and might have left the stove on after the power went out during the storm.

No injuries were reported and the fire appears to be accidental.
