(Tennessee Athletics & The Vol Network) -- The Vol Network’s radio affiliate in the Memphis market has announced that it will become the first all-sports radio station in that market to be on the FM dial. Entercom Memphis announced that WMFS 92.9 is becoming ESPN 92.9FM. ESPN 92.9FM will combine with ESPN 680AM Sportsradio and simulcast sports programming 24 hours a day on both frequencies.
The move bolsters coverage and penetration of University of Tennessee sports programming in the Mid-South with a 6,000-watt FM station to go along with a 10,000-watt AM station. The Vol Network and Entercom Memphis have recently agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep the station as home of the Tennessee Volunteers in Memphis through the 2011-12 sports season. ESPN 92.9FM/ESPN 680AM carries UT football and men’s basketball, the weekly “Vol Calls” coaches’ call-in shows and Bob Kesling’s “Vol Network Notebook” daily UT sports report.
Vice President and Market Manager of Entercom Memphis Dan Barron said, “Bringing ESPN to the FM band is a major step toward providing Memphians and Mid-Southerners quality sports programming through crystal clear reception. The historical presence of 680 AM combined with the reach and clarity of 92.9 FM assure passionate, engaged listeners ample opportunity to follow their favorite teams and personalities, and receive breaking sports news from the broadcast authority in sports: ESPN.”
In addition to being the radio home of University of Tennessee athletics, ESPN 92.9FM/ESPN 680AM carries a full line of ESPN programming, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Jim Rome.
