Murfreesboro, TN (WVLT), Some disappointments and excitement at Day-2 of action at the 2008 Spring Fling in Murfreesboro...
A handful of area baseball teams saw their dream of winning a state title come to an end in the double elimination tournament. In Class-A, it was Harriman and Rockwood going down to defeat, while Gibbs and Anderson County were defeated in Class-AA action. On the plus side, it was Tommy Pharr's Farragut admirals rocking Ravenwood 13-0. Now 2-0, the Admirals are back in the 'Boro for the first time since winning it all back in 2006. The Farragut softball team also remained unbeaten with a win today over Houston High School, while Midway was eliminated following their loss to Huntingdon.
Congratualtions are also in order tonight for the Catholic Boys tennis team. The Irish defeated university School of Jackson 4-2 to win the boys A-AA state title. It's the first state championship in any sport for the school. Also today in tennis, It was Chattanooga Christian defeating Christian Academy of Knoxville 4-3 to win the girls A-AA title.
And what a night it turned out to be on the soccer pitch. In Class-AAA, it was both Oak Ridge and West winning their games. The Rebels, win for the first time ever in state tournament play. Also Wednesday night in Class A-AA, it was 5-time defending state champ CAK and Knoxville rival Catholic advancing with shutout wins. Mark Leaders Irish defeated Goodpasture 2-0.
