(Prepxtra.com & Jesse Smithey) -- Catholic High School has its new head football coach - and just in time for the start of its spring practice on Monday.
William Blount football coach Scott Meadows has accepted the head job at Catholic and was introduced to boosters and his new team early Thursday afternoon.
Meadows was 25-20 in four seasons at William Blount.
He replaces Mark Pemberton, who resigned March 31 to become the athletic director and football coach at West Laurens in Dublin, Ga.
Meadows was commissioned to further the trend of success that Pemberton established in seven seasons and that culminated with a 15-0 record and the Class 3A state title this past season.
Meadows won a Class 2A state title in 2000 at Alcoa and has a career mark of 88-35. He has had head-coaching experience at Sequoyah, Alcoa, Jefferson County and William Blount.
Meadows hasn't coached a game since the 2007 season, though. He led William Blount to a school-best 9-3 record in 2007 but took a leave of absence in the spring of 2008 for personal reasons.
Defensive coordinator Richie Wilhite was named his successor. The Govs went 1-9 thanks in large part to a rash of injuries to key players.
Meadows resumed his head-coaching position at William Blount in November. The Govs went through spring practice with Meadows.
He will face his former team early in the 2009 season. Both Catholic and William Blount are part of newly aligned District 4-AAA, and Catholic hosts William Blount on Sept. 18.
