KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Fulton Falcons have forfeited every win of the 2008 football season, the punishment levied by the TSSAA after Fulton used an ineligible player.
The player was a student at Berean Christian and was sent to Fulton as part of a co-op arrangement between the schools. Neither schools knew at the time that the student was ineligible.
Fulton athletic director Jody Wright is frustrated with the ruling. He maintains that since it was Berean Christian's job to determine whether the player was eligible, Fulton should not be punished.
"I think the TSSAA went by what the rule said and didn't look at the situation," Wright said. "On our end it's a no-brainer that it's just a misapplication of the rule."
Berean athletic director Eric Palmer took responsibility for the mistake. He appeared before the TSSAA Board of Control and contended that the blame should fall on his school, not Fulton.
The Falcons won four games during the 2008 season.
