STRAWBERRY PLAINS (WVLT) -- Beginner's luck? Nope.

Hardin Valley was just plain good.

The Hawks celebrated the first varsity football game in school history with a 7-0 road win over Carter, capping an exciting day with an even more exciting result.

Both offenses sputtered in the first quarter. Neither team was able to score until midway through the second, when Hardin Valley quarterback Jake Bishop rolled to his left and found Zach Clevenger, who outran defenders all the way to the end zone for the program's inaugaural touchdown.

Carter threatened on the ensuing drive, but the drive failed and the Hawks were able to stymie the Hornets' offense for the rest of the game.

FARRAGUT 26, DOBYNS BENNETT 8
FARRAGUT -- It was billed as one of the top Week Zero matchups in the state, but the showdown between the Admirals and Indians turned into a romp for the team in blue. Farragut opened the scoring with a safety in the first quarter, then tacked on a De'Andre Purdy touchdown run early in the second to cruise to a win over upper East Tennessee's premier football power.

ALCOA 42, BELL CO. (KY) 14
PINEVILLE, Ky. -- In a battle of state champions, the Tornadoes swept through southeast Kentucky and left with an easy win over Bell County, the Bluegrass State's 4A state champ a year ago. Alcoa fell behind, 14-7, before storming to a decisive lead in the second half, scoring 35 unanswered to wrap up an easy win.

POWELL 31, SOUTH-DOYLE 0
KNOXVILLE -- The Panthers faced off against former coach Clark Duncan, who is in his first year as the head man in South Knoxville. The reunion was a pleasant one for Powell, who added to a 7-0 halftime lead with a touchdown only :33 into the third quarter. 17 fourth-quarter points capped off the victory in style.

WEBB 37, CENTRAL 16
FOUNTAIN CITY -- A pair of brothers propelled the Spartans to an early lead, and David Meske's team never looked in the rearview mirror. Aaron Blance caught two first-half touchdown passes and brother Caleb ran for a score to help Webb finish off the Bobcats.

I just have to say, I have seen no other fans like the Carter High School football fans. They are the most quiet going fans that I have ever seen. Here you have a memorable game and only a handfull of fans(and when I say handfull I mean I can count on one hand) even stands up to try to cheer. And here their stands were full. I mean not an empty seat. That just shows you how much they really support their team. At one time the Carter football players were raising their arms trying to get them to make some noise but Noooooo not from them, just a select few. This makes me think, if the fans were behind them and the football players could see and hear them, would that have made a difference...I think so. So I just have to say this to all the non cheering fans for Carter High School...Shame on you! You all are pathetic. Why even go to the games if you aren't gonna cheer. Get behind thoes boys. Do you really know what they go thru in their practices? YOU couldn't do it. They deserve to be cheered.
