MARYVILLE (WVLT) -- It had been eight years since Alcoa beat Maryville in the archrivals' annual showdown.

But based upon the ease with which Gary Rankin's team carved up the Red Rebels, you'd think it was the Tornadoes who had dominated the series.

Alcoa rolled to a 41-24 win thanks to a crushing rushing attack and timely second-half defense.

The Tornadoes held Maryville on its first drive, then stormed down the field, scoring on a short run by Jaron Toney to take an early 7-0 lead. But the Rebels bounced back when defensive lineman Dane McCoy recovered a fumble and took it all the way for a game-tying touchdown.

Alcoa drove back down the field and capped the possession with a short touchdown run to go ahead, 14-7. Maryville took a 17-14 halftime lead, but the Tornadoes wore down the Red Rebels in the second half, outscoring George Quarles' team 27-7 in the final two quarters to roll to victory.
