KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- For the first time in eight years, the Webb Spartans can lay their heads on their pillows with the sweet feeling of mastery over archrival Catholic.

The Spartans took advantage of turnovers and used a dominant rushing attack to beat the Irish, 21-10, and end a seven-game losing streak against their West Knoxville neighbors.

Jarvis Jones got Webb (5-0) on the board in the first quarter. He followed his blockers and cruised into the end zone to give the Spartans a 7-0 lead. The score was 7-3 at the end of the first period.

But late in the first half, Catholic (3-2) took the lead. Speedy running back Dorian Cozart showed his tough side, bulldozing into the end zone with less than two minutes left to give the Irish a 10-7 advantage.

Webb, however, was not content to run out the clock. A long kickoff return set up a touchdown connection from Parker Wormsley to David Wilhoit, and the Spartans led 14-10 at the break.

The second half turned into a defensive slugfest. Webb's Brian Burby ran for a score in the third quarter, completing a bruising drive and giving the Spartans a 21-10 lead. Neither team would score again, and David Meske's team finally found sweet victory against its most bitter enemy.

KARNS 44, POWELL 24
POWELL -- Most pundits expected Powell to roll over Karns.

Those pundits couldn't have been further off base.

Kyle Boden led a steamrolling Beaver offense to 26 first-half points, and Karns rumbled to a 44-24 win, the team's second of the season.

Boden started the scoring with a touchdown pass to Kevin Guinn, who popped open on a crossing pattern to cap the Beavers' first drive of the night.

Powell was unable to keep pace, dropping its third straight contest after a 2-1 start.

FULTON 14, WEST 13
KNOXVILLE -- Fulton and West came together for an intriguing interdistrict affair Friday on Sutherland Avenue, and the game didn't disappoint.

Fulton bounded out to a 14-0 halftime lead, but the Rebels stormed back. But Scott Cummings' team was unable to take advantage of late chances, and the Falcons held on for a 14-13 win.
