MARYVILLE (WVLT) -- No one really knew what to expect when Bearden and Maryville met for the first time this decade.

Most folks certainly didn't anticipate a blowout.

The Red Rebels ran over the Bulldogs Friday, rolling to a 38-0 win and putting themselves in good playoff position heading into the season's stretch run.

Maryville (5-1, 3-0 District 4-AAA) opened the scoring with a field goal in the first quarter. A screen pass to running back Buddy Jones torched the Bulldogs (5-1, 2-1) for a 54-yard gain. Jacob West capped the drive on the next play, scoring on a three-yard dash to make the score 10-0.

West scored again late in the first half, taking a hard hit but holding onto the football to give the Red Rebels a 17-0 halftime lead. Bearden was unable to recover in the second half.

HARRIMAN 17, TELLICO PLAINS 13
HARRIMAN (WVLT) -- Tellico Plains traveled to Harriman to try to upset the Blue Devils on their homecoming night. A win for the Bears would have placed them in a second place tie with Harriman in District 3-1A.

Harriman (3-1) struck first with a short touchdown run by Dimitrique Inman. Tellico Plains (5-1) quickly answered with multiple runs by Deion O'Dell. That put the bears in position for a game tying touchdown.

Harriman held on in the second half, ending the game with a final score of 17-13.
