KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- "That stuff off the field is a distraction and takes away from the game itself."

For Farragut Head Football Coach Eddie Courtney, last night's vandalism at Bearden has hit his football team. Among the three Farragut students arrested was Senior Defensive End Tyler Crone, charged with one count of felony vandalism.

Looks like a typical stadium spruce-up. But it's not.

"Somebody overnight decided that they were going to paint graffiti over some buildings, back of school, some doors and the football stadium. Some of the graffiti was graphic in nature," said School Principal Dr. John Bartlett.

From the press box. To the stadium walls. To the rock. Vandals painted and defaced just about everything in their path.

"I don't think the vandalism represents the true feelings of the majority of the students or parents at either school. I think there's a small group that won't let this die and it's sad for everyone involved because it generates, it perpetuates bad feelings," said volunteer football mom Terrye Guthe.

As far as what the vandals did at the field, some of it good-natured fun and some of it not. Workers came in this morning and found a bag of dog food on the field. Nothing wrong with that. But something that's bothering them, 7 empty bottles of chlorine bleach were found, and officials here at the school believe that bleach was poured directly on the grass.

"the chemical make up of bleach is detrimental to the roots of Bermuda and it's going to cause it to hopefully not kill, but definitely go dormant and you're going to have the spotting." said Hunter Fendley, who maintains the Bearden football field.

Only time will tell if that spotting is random or graphic, like other graffiti found at Bearden. But it's clear that school officials look at this as something a lot more serious than a prank.

"Any time property's destroyed or vandalized it is crossing the line. It goes farther beyond a rivalry," Bartlett, said.

A rivalry that tomorrow night will be minus one Farragut football player.

"We all make mistakes in life and I hope he's going to learn from this," said Coach Courtney.

Good for these kids. Unlike you they got revenge on the man and will be great adults. It is always refreshing to see when students had had the opportunity and took it to stick-it-to-the-man.

These 2 kids are absolute jerks in the high school and have ALWAYS been jerks. I'm not surprised to see their names in print.

Advice from an outsider: When you have graduated and moved on to bigger and better things, you realize how insignificant high school actually was, no matter how much you think you can't stand the other school right now. It's not worth doing something that will impact the rest of your life over something as unimportant as a "school rivalry". Prank (n.): a practical joke played on a person (especially one intended to make the victim appear foolish). This wasn't a prank--the only people that appear foolish are the ones that vandalized the property and now have their mugshots plastered all over the news. I'm glad to hear that students from both schools have stepped up to demonstrate that these guys were a small minority of the class. Way to go! One last piece of advice: If you really want to demonstrate your school's superiority over the other school...man up and prove it out on the football field or in the classroom. This week's prank showed nothing but stupidity, not school spirit.
