NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Legislation that seeks to make changes to the current procedures for jury selection is advancing in the Senate.
The measure sponsored by Cleveland Republican Dewayne Bunch unanimously passed the Senate Judicial Committee on Tuesday.
It makes numerous changes to present law regarding juries, jurors, and judicial commissions.
For instance, the proposal would lift automatic exemptions for the disabled and the elderly. Instead, judges could grant hardship exemptions in specific cases.
The companion bill is waiting to be scheduled for a vote on the House floor.
