Cousins' Big Night Leads Kentucky Past Sam Houston State
DeMarcus Cousins had 27 points and 18 rebounds to help No. 4 Kentucky outlast Sam Houston State 102-92 on Thursday night in the Cancun Challenge. Patrick Patterson had 20 points and nine boards and John Wall added 21 points and six assists as the Wildcats (3-0) overcame a record-setting shooting performance by the Bearkats (2-1). Sam Houston State (2-1) hung around deep into the second half behind stellar 3-point shooting, led by senior guard Corey Allmond, who poured in 37 points and made a Rupp Arena record 11 3-pointers. Gamecocks Suffer Double OT Loss at Clemson
South Carolina dropped a heartbreaking double-overtime decision at Clemson 94-92 in women's basketball action at Littlejohn Coliseum Thursday night. The Gamecocks' struggles at the free throw line caught up to them late in the contest, and the Tigers did just enough from the charity stripe to seal the contest in the final seconds. While freshman Kelsey Bone scored 32 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead all players in both categories, sophomore La'Keisha Sutton's grit and battle kept the Gamecocks on the brink of victory in the second half. She finished with 22 points and six rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.

South Carolina needed overtime to overcome a difficult first half before battling out a 70-66 win at Charlotte to open the 2009-10 season. Trailing by 11 at halftime, the Gamecocks opened the second period by relentlessly going inside to freshman Kelsey Bone, who ended her first collegiate contest with her first career double-double, recording 22 points and 11 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.
