SEVIERVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- A Georgia man is out of the Sevier County Jail on an $800,000 bond today.
David J. Jansen, 46, of Snellville, Georgia, is charged with kidnapping a woman while she was jogging in her Atlanta neighborhood on Tuesday, driving her to a remote cabin off Rocky Flats Road in Sevier County, and raping her.
After she was raped, the victim told police Jansen tied her to the couch and ordered a pizza.
Chris Turner was delivering pizzas that night for the Gatlinburg pizzeria where Jansen placed the order. He arrived at the cabin, and he says as Jansen was paying he noticed the victim tied to the couch.
"I guess she heard a second voice so she realized somebody else was here so she raised up and showed me her hands and pleaded with me," Turner said. ""She pops up over the couch and shows me that her hands are bound with rope. Then she is mouthing to me, ‘please call 911.’"
Turner says he didn't know if the woman was joking or serious.
"I mouthed it back to her asked was she kidding and she rolled her eyes and told me please just call 911."
So Turner left the doorstep after Jansen paid for his pizza--unaware the woman signaled him for help.
Turner pulled out of the driveway and went to neighbor Bill Toomey's door and knocked frantically for help.
"As soon as i started speaking to him i could see immediately he needed some help and we were going to get some help and get on the phone and call 911," Toomey said.
They did and Sevier County deputies went to this house, untied the victim and separated both and began questioning them.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution cites the police report as saying Jansen told police he and the victim were on a “romantic getaway from their spouses” and the woman was sexually aroused by bondage.
Police, however, took Jansen into custody at the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Officers obtained a search warrant for the cabin. They says they discovered evidence which “substantiated the victim’s story.”
Jansen was taken to the Sevier County Jail and charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape. He was arraigned and is due back in court on July 17th at 9 a.m.
Turner's still shocked days later, "I couldn't believe it I mean it's just something you never think about I'm glad i could be here to help her or whatever."
"He's a true hero. I mean I tell you what, God put him there and thank God he did," Toomey said.
The victim's husband sent VolunteerTV.com a statement thanking Turner.
We can only report part of it because the rest gives away clues to her identity, and our policy prevents identifying victims of sexual assault."
The victim's husband says, "I must say that the unselfish heroism of the pizza delivery man, not only reinforces that a value system still exists today, but that it is reflected directly by his actions. He literally saved my wife's life, and for that i will forever be in debt to him."
Turner had the chance to meet the victim before she left to go home to Atlanta.
"She steadily said, 'Thank you, thank you you saved my life,'" he said. "She told me that this man was planning on doing something with her because they had the cabin until Saturday."
Investigators are working with the Atlanta Police Department and other agencies on the case.
