KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Lemaricus Davidson's defense attorneys have received death threats aimed at themselves and their families, Volunteer TV's Gordon Boyd reports from the courthouse.

The threats apparently came via phone, e-mail, and U.S. Mail. Postal service involves interstate commerce, which has drawn the FBI into the probe

Those making the threats supposedly questioned why someone would defend someone accused of such a violent crime.

"When they say something like how would you like your daughter raped or put in a garbage can, I mean, that's just totally uncalled for," says attorney Doug Trant.

"You would think that everybody would want everybody to get the best defense that they could. If it doesn't work that way, we're going back to vigilante justice, and that certainly does not work."

Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23, were carjacked, kidnapped, raped and murdered in January 2007. Newsom was bound and shot three times near some railroad tracks near the Chipman Street home at the center of the investigation. His body was set on fire. Christian was raped multiple times, her private area beaten, before being stuffed into a trashcan and left to die.

Also Friday, Judge Richard Baumgartner ruled that DNA evidence from semen belonging to two unidentified men or boys can be used during Davidson's trial. The questionable DNA does not match any of the four men -- Lemaricus Davidson, Letalvis Cobbins, George Thomas and Eric Boyd -- charged or convicted in this case, nor does it match Newsom.

"I want to know whose DNA it is," says Gary Christian, Channon's father.

"I want 'em brought in here and put on trial period. And I don't care if it takes six months or six years. I want 'em in here facing a needle."
