KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Jurors have heard the prosecution's closing arguments in Lemaricus Davidson's double murder trial, but they'll sleep on that before hearing from Davidson's attorneys.
The defense will present it's closing Tuesday.
Davidson's the second of four suspects going to trial for the carjacking, kidnapping, rape and murder of Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23, in January 2007.
The prosecutors wrapped up just before 5 p.m. Monday, after pitching their case to the jury for about an hour-and-a-half. The told the jury that, no matter what they've heard about drugs from the defense, Christian and Newsom deserve justice.
All the jury heard from Davidson was his inconsistent, taped statement to Knoxville police.
That's all they'll hear from him, because Davidson will not testify in his own defense, telling Judge Richard Baumgartner, "My lawyers have counseled me, your honor, and have given me their opinion and I agree with it."
Davidson's the accused ringleader in the the couple's killing.
During closing arguments, prosecutor Takisha Fitzgerald asked asked jurors, "Was it a drug deal gone bad? Or were they carjacked at Washington Ridge Apartments?"
Prosecutors told the jury they don't have all answers, but they said all its forensic and time line proof outweighs the story by a defense witness that put the couple at an East Knoxville gas station the night they went missing.
Prosecutors told jurors the defense's suggestions of drug use was meant to make the jury think less of the Christian and Newsom.
"You can think they were dope dealers. You can think they were dope users," Fitzgerald said. "We don't care. The only thing we care about is giving those kids justice."
Still, Monday, the defense questioned a KPD investigator about where pot and pill deals happen.
"The majority of them I've worked have been in the west and north," KPD's Josh Shaffer testified. "But it's not like going to your local gas station. People go where the dealers are."
Davidson has admitted being a drug dealer, but in his statement to police he denied ever previously knowing or even seeing Christian and Newsom.
Prosecutors re-played sections of Davidson's police interrogation, using it to bolster their case. In those excerpts, Davidson told police the couple had been carjacked and then brought to his house, not by him, but by co-defendants Letalvis Cobbins and George Thomas.
The jury is set to hear from the defense first thing Tuesday morning.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The defense has rested its case in accused killer Lemaricus Davidson's double-murder trial.
Davidson's defenders rested after telling the jury about a past conviction against Davidson's half-brother and co-defendant Letavlis Cobbins.
Jurors now know Cobbins was convicted of attempted third-degree robbery in New York. The defense says Cobbins used the last name "Davidson" when he was convicted in March 2003.
The prosecution has begun calling rebuttal witnesses.
Davidson also has decided he will not take the stand in his double-murder trial.
Judge Richard Baumgartner questioned Davidson in court about his decision, and Davidson said he would follow the advice of his attorneys not to testify.
Davidson told the judge it was his decision.
Also Monday, Judge Richard Baumgartner ruled a subpoenaed defense witness in Lemaricus Davidson's double-murder trial will not the take stand, after arguing in court documents she feared for her safety.
A filed motion says Susan Hill believes didn't believe she had relevant testimony and didn't want to testify.
"If [Hill] is compelled to testify against her will in this case, she fears for her personal safety and that of her family," the court document reads, adding "she is aware of the death threats made against defense counsel."
While her testimony won't be heard, court documents say Hill may have information about past contact between Davidson and "one of the victims in this case."
Monday marks the seventh day of Lemaricus Davidson's trial for allegedly carjacking, kidnapping, raping and murdering Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23, in January 2007.
