KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Convicted killer George Thomas argued the crimes were none of his business. Jurors disagreed.

Tuesday, a Hamilton County jury found Thomas guilty on each and every count in the deaths of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom, including more than a dozen counts of felony murder and two counts of premeditated murder.

The same jury will now decide Thomas' punishment. The victims say they want Thomas to pay with his life.

Prosecutors and the victims' families celebrated after jurors delivered a unanimous guilty verdict against Thomas.

"We knew what he had done. We knew he was guilty from the beginning of what he did," said Mary Newsom.

Jurors convicted Thomas on 38 counts in the deaths of the young couple. Prosecutors lacked forensic evidence linking him to the fatal crime spree, but they argued Thomas was criminally responsible for his convicted co-defendants' actions.

The victims' families praised prosecutors for tying it all together in closing arguments.

"I think yesterday, they literally, for lack of a better term, stomped the defense attorneys in the ground," said Gary Christian.

The defense conceded Thomas was at the Chipman Street house where the couple was taken, but argued that he didn't pay attention to what happened to the couple.

"The defense was that he couldn't leave?" said Deena Christian. "He could have walked out."

Thomas' family was also in court for the verdict, but they declined comment. The Christian and Newsom families thanked jurors for the verdict.

"They did an excellent job and the fact that the jurors were shown that he was more involved than what the defense tried to illustrate."

And now the victims' families hope the same jury will sentence Thomas to death Wednesday.

"They took our kids' lives away," said Mary Newsom. "We should take theirs away."

The defense renewed its motion for acquittal in the case. Judge Richard Baumgartner said he'll rule on that later, but didn't say when, and there's no word on how it could affect this verdict.

Thomas' sentencing is set for Wednesday. He could get the death penalty, life in prison, or life in prison without parole.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Hamilton County jury that heard George Thomas' double murder trial ruled today that he is guilty on all counts against him, including the first degree felony murder and 1st degree premeditated murder of both Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom. The murder counts are death penalty eligible offenses.

Thomas' sentencing hearing will begin Wednesday morning, as the trial moves into the sentencing phase. The jury will then decide whether Thomas deserves to die for his crimes.

Thomas is the third of four defendants to stand trial for the January 2007 carjacking, kidnapping, rape and murder of Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23.

Judge Richard Baumgartner picked the jury from Chattanooga because of the substantial media coverage the Christian and Newsom case has received.

"Leland Price and TK, they are brilliant," Gary Christian said. "I think yesterday they, for a lack of a better term, stomped the defense attorneys in the ground."

"I was never-- I don't think any of us after yesterday, were confused as to what the outcome of this thing was going to be. We know he's guilty. He knows he guilty. Those attorneys know he's guilty, and that jury dang sure knows he's guilty."

He didn't have to come back. He could have left with Stacy Lawson," Deena Christian says. "He chose to stay, because he was just as guilty, just as involved as the rest of them."

"We just hope they can bring it home, and finish the job with the sentencing," Deena Christian said.

"We'd love the death penalty, but we'll take life without parole," Deena Christian said. "He needs to go away for a long time."

"There's no way he could have sat there and smoked his blunt, and not heard Channon cry, or hear seen Chris," Deena Christian

"Before any of you all get out of the way, I got something I want to say, and you all need to listen to this all the way to the end."

We want to thank the Knox County Sheriff's Department, the police department, all the law enforcement that was involved in this thing for the last three years," Gary Christian says. "There was a lot of things that they could have messed up, and they didn't...United brothers forever we are."

"Hopefully we'll get Ms. Coleman next, and Knox County streets will be safer for it," Deena Christian said.
