Vanessa Coleman's Christian-Newsom trial, Day 7
The defense has rested in the Vanessa Coleman double murder trial. Coleman is the only woman charged with the January 2007 carjacking, kidnapping, rape and murder of Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23. She faces the death penalty. UPDATE

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The defense has rested in the Vanessa Coleman double murder trial.

Following lunch, closing arguments will begin, once the jury is charged.

The case could be handed over to the jury by this evening.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- In a stunning about face, Vanessa Coleman told Judge Richard Baumgartner she would be taking the witness stand in her own defense.

Ted Lavit called his final two witnesses, Greg and Linda Coleman, Vanessa's parents. The jury peppered Mr. Coleman with several questions about his daughter's truthfulness.

Mrs. Coleman told the jury her daughter returned from Knoxville complaining of a head and foot injury. Mrs. Coleman says Vanessa told her Cobbins "threw her against a wall."

Baumgartner told jurors the case could be in their hands as soon as Tuesday afternoon.
