KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- The father of former Tennessee running back Bryce Brown is planning to sue Derek Dooley and the University of Tennessee, he said Tuesday on a Knoxville radio show.
Arthur Brown, Sr. said he is filing suit because Dooley refused to grant his son a release from his scholarship. The Brown family wanted Bryce to transfer back to Kansas State because of behavioral patterns the running back was exhibiting that they considered alarming.
"This has nothing to do with football," Brown said on Sports Talk, a show which airs on WNML. "This was a situation to where myself and my wife was concerned about the mental and physical state of my son."
Brown said he initially informed Dooley in March of his desire for Bryce to receive a release. The younger Brown, who is practicing with Kansas State, must pay his own college tuition this season because he was not released.
"Those kids are not just a tool to be used," Arthur Brown said. "If [Dooley] really cared about...Bryce being successful, then why not take the way [my wife and I] feel into consideration?"

I can't believe Dooley won't release him.....so it didn't work out, just let him go and try and pick up the pieces. This kind of stubborn attitude from the HC is not good for the program. I can't think of a single program that doesn't grant a player looking for a transfer a release? wtf Dooley?
Bryce Brown held our football team and coaches hostage while he enjoyed his life at UT with out a commitment. If his daddy was that worried about him, why didn't he take by his hand, walk him into Coach Duleys office and make him ask for the release? Why did he allow him to move in with a girl? How could he afford to commute back and forth from UT to his home? Where is the money coming from? Things don't add up. I think this is a futal attemp by an individual to get attention for the future. Arthur will be the boys agent, mark my word. He just needs to keep him and his brother close to control the future income. After this, who wants him? Didn't this happen at Arkansas? Who's Mitch Mustang starting for? There are other athletes at UT that have personal problems as severe if not more severe than Mr. Brown, but they have manned up, accepted responability of their commitment to UT and their team mates. Man up Bryce, daddy won't be there for ever.
He was released after he sent his text message letting UT know he wanted a release! The adult thing to do would have been leave daddy in Kansas and takin care of all of this long before his famous July text message!
