Knovxille -- No. 1 ranked Tennessee won its eight straight season-opener by defeating Chattanooga 76-56 on Sunday afternoon. Candace Parker led the Lady Vols with 23 points and a career-high-tying five steals.

Nicky Anosike fell one point shy of the first double-double of the season as she finished with 10 boards and nine points. Freshman Vicki Baugh became the first rookie to earn double-digit points this season. She finished with 11. Fellow newcomer Angie Bjorklund became just the 11th Lady Vol of all time to start the first game of her freshman campaign. She finished with eight points.

Tennessee owned a narrow rebound margin, 39-34 but took advantage of 32 Lady Moc turnovers for their 16th straight victory over the visitors from Chattanooga, despite UTC sinking eight of 22 three-point attempts.

The Lady Vols travel to Tampa, Fla. on Thursday for a 9:30 p.m. game against sixth-ranked Oklahoma. The game will be on ESPNU.

Tennessee will next travel to Tampa to take on Oklahoma at 9:30 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPNU.
