(WVLT) -- The Lady Vols softball team is facing elimination after a 4-0 loss to Virginia Tech in the winners' bracket of the NCAA Regional in Knoxville.
Virginia Tech's Angela Tincher struck out 14 Lady Vols, and Caroline Stolle hit a fourth-inning grand slam to give the Lady Hokies the win.
"The best team won," coach Ralph Weekly said. "We were on the ropes the whole time. [Pitcher Megan Rhodes] hit too many batters and went full count to too many batters. That catches up to you. I wasn’t
pleased with our offense either, but when you beat someone like [Angela] Tincher it’s usually a one- or two-run game.”
The loss sends Tennessee into the losers' bracket, where the Lady Vols will face the winner of the elimination game between Louisville and Winthrop. That game will take place at approximately 5pm.
If the Lady Vols win that game, they must beat Virginia Tech twice on Sunday, with the first game starting at 1:30pm.
