(WVLT) -- Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton returned to the practice field Wednesday, a day after he took the field in shoulder pads and shorts while the rest of the team was in full pads.
Crompton showed no ill effects from a sore ankle he has been fighting. Tuesday Coach Phillip Fulmer said Crompton was "fine" and that the primary reason he wasn't in full pads was because the practice was an opportunity for backups at all positions to gain experience.
Wednesday the coaches stressed the importance of focus as the Vols prepare for their season-opening trip to UCLA in less than two weeks. The opening periods featured punt coverage and return drills, play clock exercises, and a drill in which quarterbacks fielded intentionally bad snaps by offensive coordinator Dave Clawson.
The Vols scrimmage Thursday at 3:40pm.
