MARYVILLE (WVLT) -- When the Maryville Rebels welcome Alcoa to Shields Stadium Friday night, the importance is obvious for both schools and their supporters. But for the rest of us, here's the lowdown:
-It will be the first time two four-time defending state champions have met. In fact, Maryville and Alcoa were the first teams in state history to accomplish that feat last season.
-Maryville puts its 61-game win streak on the line against a deep, athletic Alcoa squad with the talent to end the Rebels' four-year run.
-The Rebels have won the last seven meetings between the teams, dating back to a 14-7 defeat in 2000. Maryville's average margin of victory during that time span is 23 points.
Both teams come into the game with a healthy amount of momentum. Maryville scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to outlast Halls 28-7, while Alcoa routed Spring Hill 63-3 to start the season.
The game kicks off at 7:30, and complete highlights will be broadcast on the Pilot PrepXtra Postgame Report at 11:11.
