MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- There's an old saying in sports: It's hard to beat a good team twice.

Maryville did just that Friday night.

In a rematch of a game played five weeks ago at Farragut, Marvyille downed the Admirals 35-14 to advance to the state semifinals. The Rebels also beat Farragut 35-32 in a game played October 16.

The Rebels pounced on Farragut quickly, scoring twice in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead. Phillip Juhlin had a pair of touchdown passes in the quarter--a 42 yarder to Stian Romberg and a 48 yard TD pass to Desmond Horne.

But the Admirals rallied in the second quarter. A De'Andre Purdy 2-yard touchdown run closed the gap to 14-7.

Then, after Farragut intercepted a Juhlin pass, the Admirals tied the game at 14 when Reese Browning connected with Lee Van Dyne.

But, similar to the first meeting, Maryville then ran off some points, with none of them answered. Buddy Jones' seven-yard TD run near the end of the first half gave Maryville a 21-14 halftime lead.

Horne would score his second TD of the night in the third quarter to make it 28-14. The nail in the coffin came in the fourth quarter when Lee Bristol intercepted Browning and returned it 70 yards for the final score of the game.

Maryville now faces Murfreesboro Riverdale at home next Friday night.

In other local action, Alcoa beat Loudon 21-3 in Class 3A. Rockwood upset Hampton 28-14 in 2A. Grace Christian defeated Harriman 35-21 in Class A. And Webb downed ECS 42-28 in the semifinals of the Division II/Class A playoffs.
