Hoover, AL (AP) - Mississippi scored five runs in the first inning and then held on for a 6-3 victory over Tennessee Thursday night in the second round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

Ole Miss sent ten batters to the plate in the first inning and scored three times before the Vols got their first out.

Tennessee starter Craig Cobb (8-6) was replaced by Lance McClain after facing only seven batters.

The Rebels (37-21) increased their lead to 6-nothing in the fourth before Tennessee (34-24) attempted to rally.

The Vols cut the lead in half in the sixth with a three-run homer by Tony Delmonico to make it 6-3. Then they stranded three runners in the seventh.

The Vols have an elimination rematch Friday night against Vanderbilt, who they beat in the first round Wednesday.
