KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/utsports.com) -- On paper, Derek Dooley's first signing class at Tennessee will be considered a success. Time will tell how the 25 freshly signed Vols will perform on the field.

The steal of the day was five-star wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers. Rogers was a long-time Georgia commitment, but signed Wednesday morning with Tennessee. Rogers is the only Rivals' five-star player Tennessee inked.

Dooley was also able to sign Maplewood High School's (Nashville) James Stone. Stone was choosing between the Vols and Alabama and he didn't let the cat out of the bag until Wednesday morning.

Stone is a four-star player according to Rivals. Signing offensive linemen was a big need for Tennessee.

Rivals ranked the Vols' signing class as the 9th best in the nation accoridng to Rivals.com. ESPN also has it as the 9th best, while Scout tabbed Dooley's first class as #15.

Tennessee did miss out on wide receiver Markeith Ambles. Ambles had originally committed to Tennessee, but that all changed when Lane Kiffin left for Southern Cal. Ambles was still considering the Vols, but he ended up signing with Kiffin and Trojans.

The Vols also lost out on J.C Copeland. The four-star defensive end was a long time Tennessee commitment, but on signing day Copeland inked with LSU.

Most scouting services rank Florida's class as tops in the nation.
